GIPA Scholarship
Each year GIPA awards up to five scholarships to graduating seniors to help offset college costs. All seniors who have been GIPA members in each year of high school are eligible to apply. Applications are distributed annually, during a German class in which students write a German-language essay based on a prompt determined by the GIPA Scholarship Committee. Essays are judged blindly by German teachers from GW Carver Middle and Sunset Elementary. Recipients are selected based on this essay, a German teacher recommendation, their DSD2 scores, their Grade Point Average, and their volunteer involvement with GIPA and the National German Honors Society. Past awardees have gone on to college in Germany, the UK, and American institutions such as Brown University, Florida State, Northeastern
University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Florida and the University of Florida.
